REBATES APPLY WITH PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE EXTRAS COVER!
Prior to coming along to your 1st appointment we will send you a pre-consultation questionnaire to complete. You will return this to us before the appointment preferably at least 24 hours before.
When we send you then pre-consultation assessment form, there will be an additional document outlining what you need to do before the scan. It is important that you read this and follow the instructions to ensure you are best prepared for the most accurate scan results.
Our densitometrist will discuss the assessment of your pre-consultation questionnaire, ensure you have prepped correctly leading in to the scan, obtain any additional information required from you, explain the procedure for the scans, and ask you if you have any questions. You will then be positioned on the table for the scan. The first scan will only take a few minutes, and the second around 10-15 seconds. So relax and stay still!
The reports are printed off immediately following your scan. We will run through every component of the body composition/visceral fat scan so you will understand total body fat, muscle, bone and importantly look at the dangerous fat hiding underneath the muscle around the midsection. Regional assessments comparing for example right arm vs left arm, right leg vs left leg will also be discussed. The results of the Abdominal Aortic Calcification scan will be provided for you to take and discuss with your doctor. We will also calculate resting metabolic rate. Provide professional, evidenced-based guidance to steer you in the right direction for additional support.
Upon completion of the Cardiovascular Health Assessment Scan Package many patients choose to continue having regular ongoing review scans. We offer discounted review scans for patients who have completed the initial phase of the Cardiovascular Health Assessment Scan Package. If you would like ongoing support and accountability the frequency of review scans is best discussed directly with densitometrists.
"Can I claim Medicare or private health rebates?"
Patients with eligible private health insurance extras cover may be able to claim rebates against the consultation. It is best to speak with us directly as cover varies from fund-to-fund so we will provide you with some individual guidance.
Medicare rebates are not available on these scans.
"Is it safe to have two scans on the same day?"
DEXA uses x-rays in a very low radiation dose.
In fact, the densitometrist can scan people all day long in the same room without any shielding required.
The combination of 2 scans provides radiation at around the same amount as a days background radiation incurred from general living.
